October is one of my favorite months of the year for a few reasons. The first is that it really signals the end of Summer. Football season has started, and the leaves have changed and are falling off the trees. The air is starting to get that fall crispness to it. Many times, I can smell the smoke flowing from my neighbors’ chimney in the morning. I truly love the smell as I am heading out to the office.
The next reason I love October is of course, it has Halloween. I used to love to watch my girls getting ready to go out “trick or treating” and how excited they got just before they left home on their treasure hunt. Now many years later, I get to watch my two grandsons do the same. (I know, I know, I’m old enough to be a grandfather) I just never get tired of it. Also, I love some of the traditional folk lore of the holiday. You know “The Headless Horseman” written by Thomas Mayne Reid in the late 1800’s. It is one of those classics that will be around for another 100 years. Unless somebody decides to be offended by it…Halloween is one of those holidays that just bring out the kid in me. I enjoy putting out the decorations, including making a scarecrow the old fashion way. This year I broke down and purchased a life-sized ghost that has a motion detector. When someone gets close to it, she does a banshee wail and her face lights up into spooky colors. I know it works because this lady that lives on my street was walking her dog and yapping on the phone. Well, the dog decided to take a sniff, and the banshee wail went off. Her dog must have jumped three feet in the air, and she dropped her phone and almost ran home. LOL it was great!!!
Finally, BBayFP does its annual client appreciation wine tasting. This is our tenth annual event. Of course, most of you have received invitations already. This year we have had a great response and are expecting a great turn out. We are having of course the tenth annual hallway putting contest for title of “Uncivilized Hallway Putting Champion of 2024”; a much-coveted title to win. Also, there will be a lot of food and plenty of wine. Ursula and I are looking forward to seeing everyone.
I hope that you all have a great October and have fun on Halloween. Thanks for reading my blog…
